SATURDAY 17TH JULY
A WONDERFUL SUMMER'S DAY AT KIRKISTOWN

Thirteen pilots took to the sky and thoroughly enjoyed the lovely summer weather.  Ideal flying conditions.

The forecast for the day indicated the wind would be along the concrete runway but in fact it was along the tarmac runway.  Not a problem!

Don't forget, the Club's BBQ is available at all times so, please feel free to utilise it if you wish.  No Charge!!

Both runways have received the attention of the NDMAC repair squad. The cement mixer kindly donated to the club by John W has made this task so much easier than before.

Weed spraying is recommended to be done every two weeks. . So, if you have a few minutes to spare, grab a sprayer and 'zap' the little green shoots before they have a chance to establish.

Some steel panels on  the rear of the shed have rusted quite badly in places.  Peter McD and Mike have kindly volunteered to address the problem before they deteriorate further.   A big thank you for that.

OUT OF LAWRENCE'S WORKSHOP APPEARED THIS LOVELY

SOPWITH 'PUPETEER' READY FOR THE SKY

This beautifully built model is constructed from a Flair 'Pupeteer' short kit.

Spanning 60-inches it is powered by a Saito 56 FSA, four stroke engine, which sounded wonderful.  The covering is Oratex on which
Lawrence has done a very professional paint job.

The pilot figure, the gun and the mock engine are all 3-D printed.

Keith performed the maiden flight flying it in a very scale-like manner.  Nice to watch.  He reported it needed only one click to trim
the elevator and one click for the ailerons.  Testimony to the model's very accurate construction.

Can't wait to see your next model Lawrence!

THE MUCH NEEDED RUNWAY REPAIRS COMMENCED TODAY

The NDMAC Repair Squad arrived at Kirkistown this evening and immediately got to work with the task of repairing the cracks and holes in the runways.

The evening, as luck would have it, was warm and dry and with a fairly stiff breeze.

Now that the club has aquired a mixer, kindly gifted to us by a member, (JW), the job of cement mixing could only be described as a 'piece of cake!

Mike seemed to be enjoying crack filling.......

Johnny was as happy as I've ever seen him........

The squad worked hard and everyone seemed to have enjoyed the craic and the satisfaction of a job well done.

Steve decided his trusty AcroWot could do with a face lift.  What a lovely scheme and definately worth the time he spent giving it his care and attention. Beautiful job.

OUR 'MAN OF THE YEAR' 2020

PETER'S TIGER MOTH WAS OUT OF THE HANGAR TODAY AND WE WERE ENTERTAINED WITH SOME LOVELY 'TIGGY' SCALE FLY PASTS

Peter built this model from a D B Sport & Scale kit.  It houses an O.S. 52 four stroke up front which makes a really nice sound as it sedately passes by.

The wing span is 58"  and together with some beautiful scale detail, it makes his Tiggy a real 'eye catcher'.

The quality of the build is exceptional as you would expect, so we hope Peter will have many enjoyable flights with this, his latest build, down at our Kirkistown flying site.

CLUB BBQ - 2020

The weather forecast for the day of our BBQ was not encouraging but none the less ten pilots came to Kirkistown determined to make the most of what the day would offer and to support the event.

Eight pilots sent their planes aloft and enjoyed the somewhat challenging conditions.  One pilot hangared his model as it was deemed too small to be flown in the 18-mph breeze.  A wise decision.

It was a lovely warm sunny day at Kirkistown made all the better with the flying, the burgers and the craic.

ANOTHER GOOD SATURDAY TURNOUT!

The weather was favourable and I counted fifteen pilots preparing their models for flight.  In addition, two new members joined the club.

Steve and Stewart fired up their 'bipes' and enjoyed some close proximity flying!

Stewart managed to track down a nice scale pilot for the office in his 'Tiggy'.  Leather flying jacket, sheep wool collar and of course, the obligitory white silk scarf.

Thinking about a name for him, Mark thought it would be a nice idea to call him 'Tubby' Dash.
Tubby was chief Flying instructor at the Ulster Flying Club and was a truely wonderful person.
He examined me for my PPL.

Rob dusted down his favourite model and flew it like a man demented.  Must see if I have a spare throttle servo to lend him!

Johnny had his new Messerschmitt 109 along for its maiden flight. (Sorry - no pic at this time.) 

Chief test pilot Brown put it through its paces and commented, "it flies beautifully".  A relieved Johnny went home a very happy man.

A most enjoyable Saturday was had by all.

My Mama told me, " there would be days like this".
